Police in Newtown and throughout the north Powys area are continuing their work preventing accidents and injury in their drink and drug drive campaign.

Dyfed Powys Police officers have been undertaking random stops in the area throughout the lead up to and during the Christmas period, continuing the more intense campaign throughout the New Year weekend.

They have warned people to leave their cars at home if they are going out to drink, or nominate a driver who is not drinking alcohol.

Meanwhile, police are also urging revellers to behave this weekend as part of their New Year celebrations. A large number of people are expected to see 2018 in at pubs and the streets of Newtown on Sunday night.

A police spokesperson said: “Know your limits. Know how you’re going to get home. Know that you’ll be able to reflect on your big night out for all the right reasons and not because you were carried away in the moment.

The campaign continues on top of the force's latest approach tackling bad driving in the area by considering vehicle dash-cam footage in cases where motorists have carried out driving offences, including dangerous or careless driving.

Earlier this month they launched a website where video footage can be uploaded of incidents filmed by dash-cams to be considered as part of potential investigations and prosecutions.

It is not know how the initiative has taken off in the Newtown area or whether any video footage has yet been submitted from the area.
