A motorist driving a brand new Jaguar car narrowly escaped serious injury after a lorry carrying bales of straw struck Nantoer railway bridge, pushing the heavy bales on to the car passing under the bridge at the same time.

Emergency services were called to the scene last night and found a scene resembling a farm yard than a main road.

The car, with just 400 miles on the clock, was damaged, although the driver escaped injury.

A police officer on the scene tweeted: “No, it’s not a nativity play. A driver with three foot too much hay decided he’d chance it.

“That’s a one week old Jaguar under there. 400 miles on the clock. All safe though. Driver of lorry in custody.”
