Newtown Football Club and long-serving secretary Owen Durbridge have parted company it has been confirmed.

A statement released by the club said:

“Long standing club secretary Owen Durbridge has stood down from his role at the football club. Owen has served in the role and on the board for many years, helping the club through difficult times with his off the pitch and administrative work.

“Since he joined he has helped the club come along way, and make significant improvements in and around Latham Park.

“His work has been invaluable over the years, and players and officials would like to express on record their sincere gratitude to Owen and all the hard work he has done behind the scenes.

“In particular his work to help bring the superb 3G surface to Latham Park, and his tireless work with the club’s academy set up. The club has benefited greatly from his hard work and expertise and wouldn't be where it was today.

“Thanks goes to Owen for his work and Newtown Football Club wish him the best of luck in the future.”

The club has not confirmed the reasons for Durbridge’s departure but chatter on the Boxing Day terraces suggested a difference of opinion with his fellow board members.
