Postal deliveries suspended in the area due to weather

Royal Mail has told MyNewtown that it has suspended all postal deliveries and collections in the Newtown and Llanidloes seas due to the adverse weather conditions.

Snow and ice has made it perilous for motorists, including postal workers who have to get about the rural areas.

Instead, they are offering collection from the Newtown sorting office and tomorrow plan to take vans to key village locations where items can be collected with proof of identity.

Mark Farrington, Newtown Delivery Office Manager for Newtown, said: “Today, I have suspended all deliveries and collections. If anyone is waiting for anything through the post they can still come to the the callers office at the Newtown delivery office which is open until 5.30 pm today where they can collect their own items with proof of identity.

“Tomorrow, we will be hopefully sending vans out to the rural villages (Kerry (post office), Caersws (post office), Tregynon (post office), Llanidloes (Spar), Carno (Spar), Trefeglwys (School), Llandinam (Red Lion), Llangurig (post office)) between 11am – 12 noon and parking up outside the locations given.

“If people want to collect their own items and can safely make their way to these locations then items will be ready for collection there.”
