The second phase of a consultation into possible changes to Newtown High School's student uniform policy will begin next week after it emerged on average the majority thought the current uniform was average, below average or poor.

Instead, respondents to the first phase of the consultation said they preferred the uniform policies of other local high schools.

The school's Student Assembly was tasked with looking into options for the school's uniform by the school's headteacher in October.

In a letter to parents, Joe Banfield and Tilly Jordan, joint Chair of the Student Assembly, said: "The Students Assembly has now completed Phase 1 of its consultation on uniform. We have considered the responses and produced an in-depth report. In summary, what we found during Phase 1 was on average, many respondents rated the current uniform as average, below average or poor.

"On average, a majority of respondents preferred the style of uniform adopted by other local high schools. Based on these findings, today marks the opening of the next stage of our consultation."

They added: "This phase looks at future uniform choices, including implementation of any change, Sixth Form uniform and our PE kit. This phase of our consultation will end on the 22nd January 2018."

Phase 2 will asks the question: "Should Newtown High School implement a base uniform of shirt and tie.

According to the first phase of the survey, 79% rated the current uniform as average, below average or poor.

Fifty nine per cent said they preferred the style of uniform adopted by other local high schools.
