Over £66,000 of welfare benefits have been secured for 66 people in Newtown as a result of the work of the town's Citizen Advice service.

The charity has been praised by a town councillor who attended its AGM last week and said its work was invaluable.

“I am delighted that Newtown Town Council funding can enable a specialist Advice Advisor for the Town," said Cllr David Selby.

"In a world that is increasingly becoming complicated to live in and where having on-line access becomes a necessity, many find it difficult to find the help they need.  In the last year the CAB through its Newtown Advice service has helped 66 clients receive £66,000 of welfare benefits for which they were entitled."
He added: “The welfare system is difficult to navigate, particularly difficult for those in most need. As a client of the service has said- “Thank you, I was frightened of the Tax Credit form, it made me panic and not able to think straight”.
"Newtown has a great asset with Powys CAB being based in our town."
