Mother named in death crash

A woman from the Trefeglwys area has been named as the victim of the fatal road accident at Penstrowed.

Julie Marie Smith has been formally named by Dyfed Powys Police. She lived in the Trefeglwys area, although it'sunderstood her family are from the Caersws area. She had two children.

She died after  two car accident on the A489 close to Penstrowed bridge on Thursday evening.

The driver of another vehicle was injured in the accident.

The road was closed for several hours following the accident to allow police to investigate the cause of the accident.

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police said: "Sadly the driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene. Our thoughts are with the family and a family liaison officer has been deployed to provide support at this difficult time."

Anyone who was driving on the road at around 7.40pm last Thursday is asked to contact Newtown Police by telephoning 101.
