Plans to erect a controversial phone mast in Tregynon have been rejected by councillors.

The plans has been submitted to place the mast on land close to homes in the village and local business employing 19 people, according to Powys County Councillor Elwyn Vaughan, who raised a motion to refuse planning permission.

It is understood the mast was part of an upgrade of the mobile network and would have brought 4G coverage to the village.

Tregynon Community Council had also objected to the mast and had asked for it to be sited with an existing mast in the village.

Residents had campaigned against the planning application and councillors rejected the application.

"Cllr Vaughan said: "It is imperative that we listen to communities, taking into consideration local views and, from a planning perspective, to also consider the impact of such a proposal on the landscape."
