One of the area's police stations is being put up for sale as Dyfed Powys Police say modern technology has made some such sites unnecessary.

Llanfair Caereinion Police Station will go on the market shortly.

Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said: “This development is part of a wider Estates Programme, helping me as the Commissioner to ensure an effective and efficient service is delivered for local residents.
“The decision to close these properties was made before my term in office and as such I have consulted with affected town councils and key community leaders before progressing the sales.
“I wish to reassure the public that all funds raised will be used to invest in the current property estate and to provide appropriate facilities for Dyfed-Powys staff and community members requiring the services of the police.
“I look forward to working with - and listening to - the community over the next few years.”

He added that new technology meant officers could do much of their paperwork while out on the beat.

“Changes to policing in structure and our use of digital technology make the physical occupation of police stations less important than it used to be. Thanks to the implementation of mobile data devices, officers are able to do a lot of their work while still out on patrol in their community.

"There is no longer the same restrictions of paperwork pulling them back to a police station quite so often.”
