Residents in Newtown have been urged not to take retribution for crime in to their own hands in Newtown following yet another wave of criminal activity.
Police today reported a spate of criminal damage in the town over last weekend in which bus shelters and greenhouses have been targeted by vandals.
The incidents happened in Garthowen, Maesyrhandir, Vaynor and Trehafren.
Sgt. Matthew Price, Newtown police, said: “These incidents are mindless and unacceptable and have had a massive impact on those directly affected and the wider community.
“I would like to reassure the public that we are taking these offences seriously, and urge people not to take matters in to their own hands.
“Instead, I ask the community to assist police to target this wave of unacceptable behaviour by ringing us with any concerns or information that you may have.”
Earlier this week it was confirmed that high definition CCTV was likely to be installed in the town centre as part of pans by the Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police by calling 101, or speak to a local officer by visiting Newtown Police Station. If you are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired text the non-emergency number: 07811 311 908. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555111, or visiting crimestoppers-uk.org.
