Plans for a business park and recycling bulking depot at Abermule have been delayed for a year after a survey found a need for "ecological mitigation works."

Plans had been put forward by Powys County Council for the recycling bulking facility, which would take household recycling from throughout Montgomeryshire to be packed for distribution to recycling plants elsewhere in the UK, and a business park on the site alongside the A483 and the junction into Abermule.

The site was transferred from the Welsh Government to Powys County Council.

But a meeting of the full county council on Thursday is to be asked to move over £2million from the 2017/2018 budget into 2018/2019 to allow works to be undertaken.

"The Abermule Business Park is a joint project between Highways, Transport and Recycling and Regeneration and Regulatory Services. Due to necessary ecological mitigation works identified during surveys over the summer on the site, construction is now going to take place in 2018/19, with planning and the design work in 2017/18," states a report to councillors.

"The project remains on course to deliver its objectives of providing high quality business units to attract new and growing businesses to Powys and a new recycling bulking facility which will enable the Council to meet the WG recycling targets.

"This virement requests the roll forward of £2.059m to 2018/19 for the whole project, £345k is rolled forward for the Regeneration & Regulatory services element of this project."

Councillors are expected to agree to moving the money into the next financial year.
