A Caersws businessman and his wife were left shocked after finding an Ethiopian migrant had sneaked into their pick-up at Calais in France and travelled back with them to the Mid Wales village.

Paul Edmunds, who runs a business in the village, had been on holiday with his wife to France.

But when they arrived home near Caersws, they found a 22-year-old man in the back of their pick-up.

Mr Edmunds was reported as saying: "We had been away with friends for the weekend and were on our way home."

"He was a very placid man. I gestured to him and asked where he was from and he said Africa."

Mr Edmunds called police and the man was then handed over to immigration officials.

"At approximately 5.45pm on Sunday, September 18, Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a suspicious man discovered in the back of a van in Caersws, Powys.

"The van had just returned home from a journey that had passed through Calais and Dover. The 22-year-old man from Ethiopia was arrested and handed over to immigration officers."
