A heartless thief has stolen personal books containing handwritten poems, stories and illustrations from the garden of a house in Vaynor, Newtown.

The books, belonging to the resident, were stolen between 7.10am and 11.30am on Tuesday.

Police said the owner and author of the books did not want to be named, but the books were personal and of no use to whoever stole them.

"They contain handwritten poems, stories and illustrations and are of great value to the owner," said PC Kerry Powell of Newtown Police.

One of the notebooks is described as black in colour with an elastic band around it and the other is aqua blue in colour.

They might have been dumped or left around the area after the theft and anyone who might have seen them is asked to contact police by telephoning 101.
