Hammer attack during college burglary

A members of NPTC's college staff has been attacked with a hammer during a burglary at the Llanidloes Road campus.

Police have revealed the attack took police during a burglary in the early hours of Sunday when two key holders attended the college, responding to an alarm.

They challenged two masked intruders, one of whom attacked one of the staff with a hammer blow to the head.

It is not know what the condition of the person is or the severity of the injuries.

DC David Richards of Newtown CID, said: “Newtown Police are investigating a burglary which occurred between the hours of 0.30am and 2.40am on Sunday, 20th August, at Coleg Powys in Newtown.

“Two male offenders wearing masks were challenged by keyholders attending to the alarm. In the process of making their escape, the offenders have struck one of the keyholders to the head with a hammer.

“We are particularly interested if anyone saw these persons running from this direction at around 2.40am.”
