Tributes have been paid to a well-known Newtown businessman and DJ who has passed away suddenly.

Dave Cornish, who owned Red Flame electrical contractors and was also well known over the years as a DJ at the Crystals nightclub, pass away earlier this week aged 57.

Mr Cornish had originally been a manager with NatWest Bank before he started working for himself, as well as working at the now defunct Radio Maldwyn.

Last night the Crystals nightclub paid tribute to Mr Cornish and said fellow DJ James Clegg would be dedicating his set at the club on 26 August to him.

Tributes have been poring in on social media to the news.

A message on the Crystals Facebook page said: "It is with a very heavy heart that we write this message. Our friend and colleague Dave Cornish has passed away at the young age of 57. Dave has been a big part of Crystals since the very early days.

"A familiar face to many in Mid Wales, whether you knew him as the club DJ, the electrician, a voice on Radio Maldwyn or the bank manager - you couldn't mistake Dave's warm character, fast pace and huge passion for dance music.

"He was a friend and mentor to many aspiring DJs, some of whom have gone on to build successful careers in music. From teaching decks-skills clubs in school to taking DJs under his wing in his successful company Red Flame Productions – there aren't many DJs in our area that haven't had the pleasure of playing and working alongside Dave."
