New recycling centre opening times revealed

New opening times have been announced for Newtown's recycling and waste centre following the public outcry over the three day opening introduced in April.

Powys County Council has confirmed that the centre in Wern Ddu Lane will be open five days a week, including weekends.

Residents will also be able to use permits to use the site with commercial style vehicles, such as vans and pick-ups which had been banned in April.

The new times are:

Monday - 9am to 5pm

Tuesday - 9am to 5pm

Wednesday - 9am to 5pm

Saturday - 10am to 4pm

Sunday - 10am to 4pm

Last month the council’s cabinet approved a recommendation to increase the opening days at the centres to five days a week, including weekends. 

They also agreed to introduce a permit scheme for residents to use commercial-type vehicles and trailers for their own household waste.
 
The decision followed an urgent review of the impact of reduced opening days and vehicle restrictions introduced in April as part of budget-saving measures.
 
The new opening days will come into effect from Friday, September 1.

The times for the Welshpool depot are:

Wednesday - 9am to 5pm

Thursday - 9am to 5pm

Friday - 9am to 5pm

Saturday - 10am to 4pm

Sunday - 10am to 4pm
