Powys County Council is to start offering its in-house services to local businesses as part of a move into commercialising some of its services.

Last week MyNewtown revealed how the council has appointed a global consultancy to support its work in making more of its estate in commercial terms.

This week the council has launched a new booklet outlining how the council will become more commercialised.
The council says Heart of Wales Business Solutions (HWBS) is a new initiative which aims to commercialise the council by trading some of its products and services.
The HWBS booklet looks at a range of professional services such as Payroll, DBS, Counter Fraud, and how they can be viably traded with other private and public organisations.

Leader of Powys County Council, Cllr Rosemarie Harris said: “At times of austerity we recognise the need to look for fresh opportunities to generate income.

“As a council we must always be forward-thinking, innovative and creative if we want to achieve our objectives and that is exactly what this new booklet sets out.

“We are looking at many different options to trade and we’re open to offering a wide variety of services and skills.

“The Royal Welsh Show has provided the perfect platform on which to launch the HWBS initiative.

“Cabinet Members will be out and about meeting with various businesses and organisations about the HWBS initiative during the Show.

“Connecting with these businesses is key and will take us one step further to boosting income and strengthening council business.

“This is an exciting new project and I look forward to its development.”
