One of Newtown’s youngest and newest town councillors is to call for more to be done to enage with young people in the town.

Cllr Richard Williams, who also works at Newtown High School, is to ask fellow councillors to establish a youth engagement strategy looking how it and the community can work with and do more for young people in the town.

“At the Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council meeting in on the 24th July, I will be presenting a proposal to establish a youth engagement and representation strategy which looks at the ways in which the town council will seek the views of young people and compares and evaluates the models of representation (Youth Reps, Youth Council or a Hybrid model).

“As Newtown evolves through the Going Green for a Living scheme, it is vitally important that young people, the future of our town are heard loud and clear.

“In order to successfully present a more rounded proposal, I am seeking the views of the public especially young people via a short questionnaire.”

He has established an online questionnaire thought the following link:

The questionnaire and proposal for a stagey is Cllr Williams’ and currently has nothing to do with the town council.

But he hopes councillors will back his plans so more work can be done with the younger generation of the town.
