It’s gold, silver and bronze for students at Newtown High School for the first time.

It’s the first year the school has offered the three levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Recently the gold participants left Llanidloes all ready to go.

Over the four days they clocked up around 50 miles while walking past the stunning Clywedog reservoir, the Glaslyn nature reserve, Plynlimon and finishing at Devil's Bridge.

Their final and assessed expedition will take place around the Elan Valley in three weeks time.

“Our gold participants were not the only ones heading out for an adventure with 40 students completing their 20 mile bronze award and 15 completing their 30 mile silver award,” said a school spokesperson.

“Well done to everyone who took part and best of luck on your assessed expedition taking place soon.”
