Assurances are wanted by Newtown Town Council over planned improvements to the pedestrian crossings in Back Lane.

A consultation into the changes to the road and improvements to the junction with High Street and the crossings will end on 7 July.

The changes will see a raised ramp to slow traffic down as they approach the crossing close to the Iceland store off the High Street junction and other works to make the crossing and visibility safer.

The Town Council has put forward two resolutions that include assurances that the Wales Ambulance Service has been consulted as "the angle of the ramp could could cause injury to people being treated in ambulances."

The second resolution by the council's Economy and Environment Committee states: "There could be safety issues for cars turning left from High Street on to Back Lane, with existing bushes blocking nightlines. NLTC requests that the bushes are removed and be replaced by railings."
