An investigation has been launched into the “brutal” attack on an 88-year-old woman near Newtown.

The woman was found by a neighbour at her home in Dolfor with significant facial and arm injuries on Monday night before being taken to hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

Police believe motorists who were driving on the Upper Dolfor Road between 9am and 5pm on Monday can help if they have dash-cam video.

They said such evidence might help their investigation.

The woman has not been named by police, by her nephew has appealed for help. He is Mervyn Lloyd Jones who campaigned to save the Brimmon Oak tree on his land near Vastre.

"She was the driving force behind saving the Brimmon Oak. I want as many people as possible to be aware of what has happened to my aunt so we can catch the culprits," he said.

He said anyone with a glimmer of information should contact police.

Anyone who might have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Dolfor or Dolfor Road area on Monday is asked to call Newtown Police on 101.
