Town centre defibrillator to be considered

04/06/2017 @ 09:46

A defibrillator could soon be installed in the town centre to support medical emergencies in the area.

Newtown Town Council is to appoint a lead councillor tomorrow (Monday) night to carry forward the plans which could see the medical device installed at a publicly accessible area.

The council is due to speak to the ambulance and police services about the location.

It follows news that some other businesses in the town, including a bank and a licensed premises, already have such devices which are accessible when they area open.

Such a device can help heart attack sufferers and other medical emergencies to receive immediate care in the minutes before an ambulance arrives on the scene.

The town council's Services Committee will appoint a councillor who will liaise with the relevant services and consider the type and location.
