Thirteen 126.5 metre high wind turbines are to be built next to an existing wind farm at Carno.

Planners have given the green light to the development adjacent to the existing Carno Windfarm.

Plans had been submitted to Powys County Council for the turbines, transformer housing, an anemometer mast, access track, substation, control building and other work at the site above the village.

It also an underground cable route to carry electricity produced, along with alterations to the access route and other work.

The plans had originally been made nearly seven years ago for 18 wind turbines, but this was reduced following consultation.

Objecting to the planning application, the Montgomeryshire-based Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales said the plans were effectively for a new site and not an extension to the existing one.

The applicants, Amegni Renewables Ltd, said the wind farm would provide 39 megawatts of electricity to the National Grid.
