Town councillors are expected to discuss tightening security at one of Newtown's historic sites following a spate of criminal damage.

St Mary's Church has been targeted in recent times by vandals and others, including a recent attack when the door to the crypt of the town's Pryce-Jones family was smashed.

Newtown Town Council's Services Committee is to consider extra lighting and security measures to protect the church and churchyard so people can still enjoy the public area.

A previous meeting agreed to consider extra security and on Monday the committee will appoint a lead councillor to take the matter forward.
