Service expands to help older people at home

22/05/2017 @ 10:01

Older people in Montgomeryshire will see two new faces offering advice on safety in the home after a local agency appointed to new staff.

Care and Repair is expanding with the appointment of caseworker Tracy Jones and craftsperson Dave Buchan.

The organisation provides advice and undertakes to make older people’s homes safer for them to live independently in.

The Agency has appointed Dave, previously a self-employed building contractor, to carry out adaptations that prevent slips, trips and falls around the home.

A new Caseworker covering north Powys has also been appointed. Tracy will be responsible for delivering the “Healthy Home Service”, a home based visiting service available to home owners and private tenants living in Powys over 60 years of age which assesses and advises on safety at home.

Tracy previously worked as a Caseworker for Care and Repair in Coventry and has recently moved to the area.

Debbie Brooks, the Agency’s Team Leader, said: “We are delighted to welcome Dave and Tracy to the Agency to increase the work we do”.  She added: “Preventing slips, trips and falls reduces hospital admissions and enables safe discharge from hospital or the need for short term care. Simple adaptations to people’s homes, such as a handrail, can often make a huge difference”.

The Agency is funded by the Welsh Government, Powys County Council, Powys Teaching Health Board and Mid-Wales Housing Association.

If a safer home would benefit you, or anyone you know, please get in touch with Care & Repair in Powys on 0300 111 3333 or enquiries@crpowys.co.uk.and ask for the Healthy Home Service.
