Local county councillors hope for positions

Newtown's Powys County Council representatives will be hoping for positions on influential council committees today when the authority holds its AGM.

It will be the first key meeting of the county council since the elections earlier this month.

The meeting, at County Hall in Llandrindod Wells, will include choosing a Leader, Cabinet and Chairman, as well as meetings of committees including planning where the chair's and members will be agreed.

It will also emerge which party will take overall control of the council, if any. The Conservatives and Independents have the most seats, but at the last council, the independents were split between several groups.
