New Mayor elected to lead town council

A new Mayor and Deputy Mayor have been elected to lead Newtown Town Council through the next year.

Cllr Sue Newham, who has served as Deputy Mayor under retiring Mayor, Cllr Richard Edwards, takes on the mantle at a time when the town council is expected to take on additional local services from Powys County Council which continues to seek savings and make cut backs.

Her deputy is Cllr Susan Hill.

As Cllr Edwards stood down from the role, he talked about how changes had affected the town council over the past two years, while Cllr Newham talked about the future and how the council would need to adapt and secure services for the town.
