Nearly 150 families have been helped by Newtown’s Food Bank since the start of this year, it has emerged.

According to Newtown Salvation Army, which operates the Food Bank, it has provided around 2,664 meals to people as a result.

The Newtown Corps is now organising a fashion show and promise auction for Friday this week to raise money towards running the town’s Food Bank.

The event will take place at Newtown Methodist Church at 7.30pm.

“We anticipate a highly enjoyable night with fashion from Tesco, 7ern Island and our very own charity shop and auction lots from local businesses,” said Nicola Wain, Community Development Worker.

“Hair will be done by Strands and Make up by Donna Lester. All the proceeds will be going to The Salvation Army Food Bank & community work.”

Nicola added: “The Salvation Army has been helping families with food parcels since its beginning in 1865, they believed in Soup, Soap & Salvation.

“Here in Newtown we have helped 148 families since the New Year, which is approximately 2664 meals! We couldn’t do that without your support, so thank you.”
