Cyber attack latest - postal vote applications now online

Powys County Council has reinstated its online application form for people to apply for postal votes at the General Election and future local and national elections.

Last week's cyber attack on the NHS and others meant applications for postal votes made after midnight on Thursday were lost after council IT experts took the servers offline as a precaution.

The council uses the NHS Wales Informatics Service for its email. And so all inbound emails to the council will not get through or have been lost.

Now, the council has placed a web link on its website to allow people to apply for a postal vote. It can be found at http://www.powys.gov.uk/en/elections/apply-to-vote-by-post/.

Anyone wanting to make a postal votes has until 5pm on Tuesday, 23 May to make it.

Jeremy Patterson, Powys County Council’s Chief Executive and Returning Officer, said: “We want to make sure that no-one misses out on their right to take part in these elections just because they aren’t registered to vote.
 
“The countdown to the election is now on, and voters only have until May 22 to make sure they are registered. Some people think that you are automatically registered once you pay council tax, but that isn’t the case.
 
“If you’re not registered, then you can’t vote.”
