Businesses in Newtown are being urged to be vigilant after a spate of break-ins in the town centre.

The Sandwich Bar in Broad Street and the Bear Lanes Cafe were both broken into over the weekend, with cash stolen from both businesses, along with a white Raleigh bicycle from the Bear Lanes precinct.

Police visited retailers in the town centre yesterday to warn them to ensure cash was locked away.

PC Jonathan Reynolds said the Sandwich Bar was broken into sometime between 8.30pm and 8.30am on the 13 May, while the Bear Lanes premises was entered between 5.30pm and 8.30am on the 14.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Reynolds or PC 174 Jarrett at Newtown Police Station by telephoning 101.
