A recruitment campaign to get more people fostering children will target Newtown next month.

Powys County Council's fostering team will be taking part in the national Foster Fortnight between 8 and 22 May to recruit more people into fostering.

Part of the campaign will see the team visit Newtown's Tesco store on Thursday, 11 May to encourage shoppers to consider the opportunity.

“It aims to encourage people to consider fostering and ask them to look at the skills and qualities needed to make great foster carers.  The theme for this year’s annual campaign is ‘Foster care transforms lives,” said a council spokesperson.

“Powys County Council’s Fostering Service is passionate about the difference that foster care makes to the lives of fostered children and young people

Foster Care Fortnight is an excellent opportunity to showcase that difference. But foster care doesn’t just transform the lives of the young people who are fostered, it also has the power to change the lives of foster carers, their families and all those who are involved in fostering.”

To celebrate this year’s Foster Care Fortnight, the council’s Fostering Service is launching a new film in which Sami, the daughter of long-established foster carers, shares her thoughts and experiences.
