Comics are to make a comeback in Newtown, thanks to a new free service at the town’s library.

From this month the Powys Library Service provide an online service allowing residents access to thousands of graphic novels and comics, all available for free over a seven day loan period.

“For fans of comics and graphic novels, this is a great free service to be accessing, and it’s a service anybody can enjoy, even if they’ve never tried graphic stories before – there’s comics and graphic novels for all ages”,  Said Kay Thomas, Principal Librarian for Powys Library Service .

“It’s also good news for some of our younger readers, who enjoy the visual impact and immediacy of comics, making it a popular leisure activity that sparks the imagination and keeps them reading.”

The Comics Plus: Library Edition - brings thousands of digital graphic novels and comics to library members on any Web-connected device. This digital collection includes thousands of titles and series from the biggest publishers in comics with every genre you could wish for: fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, thrillers, romance, indie comics, Sunday funnies and manga.

Library users can download the free Comics Plus app compatible with Android and iOS devices.

Comics and graphic novels are available for all ages and for different levels of reading. Parents can even use controls within the App so they can be confident that children can only access comics that are age appropriate.

“This will be a good addition to our existing e-book, e-audiobook and e-magazine service - with Powys library members being the most enthusiastic users of down-loadable digital reads in Wales.  We hope that the new Comics Plus service will be equally popular,” added Kay.

Comics Plus: Library Edition will allow free comic and graphic novel downloads to be made - as many titles as you like.
