Glyn says he will stand at "snap" General Election

Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies has been quick to confirm that he is keen to stand in the snap General Election that was called yesterday by the Prime Minister for 8 June.

Mr Davies enjoyed a healthy majority two years ago and has said he will meet with local Conservative Party leaders to set out his campaign plans.

“I fully support and understand why Theresa May has called a 'snap' General Election on June 8,” he said.

“She is facing the biggest challenge facing any British Prime Minister for many decades - striving to ensure Brexit delivers the best possible outcome both for Great Britain and for the European Union.

“The referendum was a bruising experience, and while the country is 'coming together' to create the best possible future for us, that is not the position in Parliament.

“Many MPs seem to be focussed on working against a good agreement. The only way to create the stability and certainty needed in Parliament to deliver the best possible deal is through a General Election.

“Over the last seven years, I have been greatly honoured to represent Montgomeryshire at Westminster, and I would be honoured to continue doing so for the next five years. I was born and have always lived in Montgomeryshire and there can be no greater privilege for me than to represent the beautiful part of Britain which has always been my home, in the world's greatest parliament.

“Fighting the June 8 General Election will be a huge challenge for the Montgomeryshire Conservative Association, and a huge personal challenge for me. But over the seven years I have been MP for Montgomeryshire, we have received wonderful support, which has helped us to win. We hope to win that support again on June 8.”
