A man has been pulled to the ground and assaulted as he walked towards a Newtown business.

The man in his 50s was walking towards the forecourt at the Costcutter store in Llanidloes Road when he was approached from behind and puled to the ground before being put into a head-lock brace, according to Newtown Police.

They have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which happened at around 8pm on 6 April, to contact them on 101.

“If you witnessed anything or are aware of who the suspect may be, please come forward and provide information to the police,” said PC Grace Coburn.

“The suspect is described as white in colour, dark hair, heavily  built maybe between 16- 18 stone, between 5'10 and 6ft in height, wearing a dark green or brown long sleeved top and dark coloured  trousers. The suspect also drove a Vauxhall Astra described as ‘brownish’ in colour with the numbers 65 in the number plate.”
