Mature drivers in Newtown are being given the opportunity to brush up on their road knowledge with an informal workshop organised by Powys County Council.
Powys County Council’s Road Safety Unit will be holding its Driver Theory Refresher workshop in Newtown on 8 May. Another workshop is being held in Welshpool on 9 May.

They are aimed at drivers aged 65 years and over and include a two-hour and classroom-based informal workshop.

They will will provide attendees a refresh of the Highway Code and driver licence requirements.  It will also cover topics including night-time driving, medicine and alcohol laws and personal safety behind the wheel.
Attendees will also be offered a practical one-hour driving assessment.
Nigel Brinn, the council’s Head of Highways, Transport and Recycling, said: “Ensuring that our roads are safe for everyone is an important element of the work of our Road Safety Unit who have successfully delivered a number of initiatives.  There has been a significant amount of work carried out by the unit in attempting to cut the number of collisions and casualties in Powys.
“We hope that this free workshop will help preserve and conserve valuable driving skills and make drivers more aware of what influences our driving, ultimately leading to a reduction in collisions and casualties in this statistically vulnerable driving group.
“I would commend this course and would encourage mature drivers to take advantage of this great opportunity to strengthen their driving skills”
For further information or to book a place on the course email or call Bridget Farrington, Area Road Safety Officer (North) on 01686 611586.
