People with an interest in social reformer Robert Owen, who was born and died in Newtown after helping establish the co-operative movement, are being urged to support the museum dedicated to him.

The Robert Owen Museum, baed within the town council offices at The Cross in Newtown, is seeking members for its Council of Management.

The COM is currently considering a merger with the Co-OPerative Heritage Trust, but will be consulting with people interested in the museum before making a decision.

Chair of the museum’s COM, Sue Newham, has issued a plea for more people to come forward to support the museum and its running.

It is dedicated to the life of Robert Owen who instigated social reform and crated the early stages of the co-operative movement before returning to Newtown where he died.

“Museum management day-to-day is directed by the officers' group but major decisions are ratified by the Council of Management at our 6 monthly meetings, so we need COM members who are as passionate about Robert Owen as we are and willing to take an advisory role<‘ said Mrs Newham.

Anyone interested in learning more or helping can contact the museum by email -
