A Newtown teenager is one of just a few from throughout the UK to secure a higher apprenticeship in applied engineering with Jaguar Land Rover, competing against 6,500 other hopefuls.

Jonathan Teasdale, a Year 13 student at Newtown High School, is the second pupil from the school to achieve the apprenticeship.

Mr W Lewis, Head of Physics said: “Both myself and Ms Jennings are very proud as he was tested on his physics and maths knowledge and skills as part of the very rigorous and lengthy application process.

“This is a fantastic achievement bearing in mind there were 6,500 applicants competing for a small number of vacancies. During this time, he will also gain a degree in applied engineering.

“This is an amazing opportunity and Jonathan is a fantastic role model to other students wishing to use physics and maths in their future careers.”
