Awareness of war memorials in the area will be promoted through a competition launched by Powys County Council.

A free-to-enter quiz has been launched to highlight the Powys War Memorials Project, a four-year project commemorating the centenary of World War One.

One aim of the Powys War Memorials Project 2014-2018: ‘A Mark of Respect’ is to work with local communities, volunteers and others to find, record and catalogue all the World War One memorials in the county.

There is also funding available through the project to repair, restore and maintain World War One memorials.

There are four prizes, worth almost £200 in total, to be won with a first prize of a pamper day at the Lake Country House Hotel and Spa, Llangammarch Wells.

The quiz is made up of 10 questions and a tie-breaker based on war memorials.

The council obtained funding for the project from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Cadw and Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.

To take part and to see full completion details please visit www.powyswarmemorials.co.uk/competitions.

The closing date for the quiz is Friday 9th June 2017. Any entries received after this date will not be entered. Winners will be announced at the end of June.
