Newtown, Llanidloes and Welshpool will feature in the Queen’s Baton Relay due to take place this September.

Athletes, personalities and local people along the route of the relay that will celebrate the Gold Coast Games taking part in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018 will take part between 5-8 September.

The baton, which will travel throughout Commonwealth countries before arriving in Australia, will on 7 September pass through Llanidloes, stopping at the town’s high and primary schools, before travelling on to Newtown, stopping off at Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd, and then on to Welshpool.

Chris Jenkins, Commonwealth Games Wales chief executive, said the route provide an opportunity for anyone who cannot make it to the Gold Coast "a chance to be involved in an unforgettable experience."
