Brisco House, the home of Newtown Town Council, could be transformed into a new community resource centre if plans by the Trust which owns it go ahead.

The Sarah Brisco Trust, which owns the property at The Cross on the corner of Broad Street and Severn Street, invited Newtown Town Council to join it in transforming the building for potential other community uses.

The building is home to the town council, the Robert Owen Museum, the council's chamber and some tenants.

The council has accepted the invitation and will begin discussing the plans with the Trust.

It is understood the plans would include providing a community resource within the town centre, although it could be a while before anything happens as grant and other funding would be required.

In the meantime, the town council will undertake improvements to accessibility and essential maintenance during the next year.
