An invitation has been issued to singers in the area to join a local well-known choir for a day os singing.

Quindici, the acclaimed chamber choir based in Montgomeryshire, are extending an invitation to singers in the county to join them next Saturday  at Tregynon, near Newtown.

Entitled The Great British Anthem, the day will concentrate on church anthems written in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, featuring composers such as Finzi, Vaughn Williams, Bainton, Britten, and others.

Musical Director, Suzanne Edwards, said: “Quindici have been fortunate to have sung services in Cathedrals and Parish Churches all over the country, and one of the highlights of the services is to sing a great anthem.

“So our singing day this year will include some well loved anthems we’ve sung in the past, but we’ll also be looking at some new music which we can hopefully use in the future.”

The day will be held in Tregynon Community Centre on Saturday, 18 February, starting with coffee at 10am and finishing at 5pm. The cost is £10 for the day, including tea and coffee and all music.

“It will be a fun day and all singers are welcome – all voice parts. You’ll need to be a quick sight reader though, as we will be getting through quite a lot of music. We will finish the day a short walk up the hill to St Cynon’s Church, where my Co-Director, Tim Mills, will accompany the choir on the organ”.

Tim and Suzanne formed Quindici in 2001 and the choir is celebrating its 15th birthday this year. Tim is Director of music at the Glasgow Academy currently, and is well known in Montgomeryshire as an organist, teacher and accompanist.
