Newtown are just two points behind Conference Play-Off leaders Llandudno in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League after their second win since the split.

Nick Rushton’s late strike saw the Robins come out on top in a thrilling five goal encounter against Rhyl at Latham Park.

The Robins went into the game in fine form, and Jason Oswell fired home an early goal before Stefan Halewood’s long range strike levelled things up.

Oswell tapped home again in the second half but again Newtown were pegged back when Kristian Pierce slotted home a penalty.

However it was to be Newtown who had the final say as Rushton kept his composure to slot home and earn his side the three points.

There was to be late agony for Caersws who conceded a last minute goal against Huws Gray Alliance leaders Prestatyn to go down 3-2 on the North Wales coast.

Luke Evans put through his own goal to give Prestatyn the lead on 30 minutes and James Stead increased for Prestatyn on 45 minutes. The Bluebirds staged a second half comeback through Mark Griffiths (56) and Will homaas (75) but Jack Lewis netted a 90th minute winner for Prestatyn.

Carno and Berrew drew 1-1 in the Spar Mid Wales League showdown but still gained a point on leaders Rhayader who suffered a surprise 1-0 home setback against Aberaeron.

Kerry stayed clear at the top of the second division by winning 2-1 at Presteigne.
