Montgomeryshire residents interested in World War One have an opportunity to attend an event about the war in the area being staged later this month.

Powys War Memorials Project has organised an oral history event on at St Idloes Church Hall, Llanidloes from 7pm to 9.30pm on 321 January.

Members of the public are being encouraged to take along photographs, newspaper cuttings and artefacts relating to World War One.

The event is free but donations are welcome for the Llanidloes Hospital Palliative Care Unit.  Refreshments will be available from 6.30pm.

As part of the event, there will be sessions on Llanidloes and World War One by Nia Griffiths and Nick Venti, Wales at War Project by Rhian James, Powys County Council’s Archives and family history research by Roz Williamson and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Living Memory Project by Chris Barrett.

During the evening, there will be performances by the Wesley Singers.

Powys War Memorials Project, which is being led by Powys County Council and commemorates the centenary of World War One, has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Cadw and the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.

There are many elements to the project including identifying, recording and mapping all the war memorials in Powys and encouraging and enabling local communities to carry out research about the men and women named on war memorials.

The project has also been supporting local communities to apply for funding for a rolling programme of repairs and restoration to war memorials and their immediate surroundings.
