Council refuses to produce "rubbish" timetables

Confusion could affect residents over the days they’re refuse and recycling is picked up from the streets of Newtown.

Powys County Council has told Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George, that it is too costly to produce a new timetable of refuse and recycling dates for residents in the town and throughout the county.

The council has previously issued residents with timetables of when the three weekly collections will visit their homes.

In a letter to Mr George, Powys County Council said new timetables will only be issued if there is a change of collection day in the future.

However, Mr George has said that an annual calendar provides an invaluable service which informs members of the public about the collection day and prevents confusion occurring.

Mr George said: "Residents were issued timetables last year, which only listed collection dates up to the end of December.

"Having to pay for postage and having to produce 15 different versions of a timetable is no excuse. I don’t think people expect a glossy document - a simple leaflet which could be photocopied and delivered by waste operators as they go about their collections would suffice.

"I am aware that collection day information can be obtained from the council's website, but many don’t have access, and as we now only have collections every 3 weeks, the council should be making it easier for residents."
