Over 164 Christmas gifts have been delivered to families in the Newtown area as part of the generosity of local residents, according to the Salvation Army.

The organisation’s annual Christmas Present Appeal meant 89 families were also provided with Christmas Food Hampers.

“The Salvation Army in Newtown would like to say a big thank you to everybody who supported this year’s Christmas Present Appeal,” said Samantha Jones, Newtown Corps Officer.

“As a result of the generosity of the people of Newtown and the surrounding area, and the marvellous help received by our hard-working volunteers we were able to deliver 164 gifts to children and families in this area.”

She added: “We would also like to thank the public for their generous donations to the Newtown food bank over the Christmas period.  We were able to help 89 families with Christmas food hampers, we couldn’t have done this without you.”

“We are sure that your donations helped to brighten up many lives this Christmas. Without your gift, there will have been many children and families who might have received little or nothing on Christmas morning and on their behalf we also say thanks.”
