There was no Christmas joy for Newtown who suffered a last-minute Boxing Day defeat at Aberystwyth in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League.

Kurtis March struck late to hand Aberystwyth the points in the first Mid Wales derby of the festive period. He swept home a cross a minute from time to give his side the three points, leaving the Robins looking at two straight defeats.

Manager Chris Hughes now has to lift the Robins ahead of the return fixture at Latham Park.

Berriew stayed top of the Spar Mid Wales League thanks to their massive goal difference, helped by their 7-0 win over struggling Montgomery. Rhayader are level on points after winning 2-0 at Llanidloes with Carno close behind after winning 2-1 against Llanrhaeadr.
