Recycling and refuse collections for Newtown and surrounding households will take place one day later during Christmas and the New Year.

Powys County Council wants householders to be aware of the changes during the festive period and is also encouraging residents to reduce, reuse and recycle as much of their household waste as possible.

Normal collection day / Collection will be
Monday 26 December (Boxing Day) / Tuesday 27 December
Tuesday 27 December (Bank holiday) / Wednesday 28 December
Wednesday 28 December / Thursday 29 December
Thursday 29 December / Friday 30 December
Friday 30 December / Saturday 31 December
Monday 2 January 2017 (Bank holiday) / Tuesday 3 January 2017
Tuesday 3 January 2017 / Wednesday 4 January 2017
Wednesday 4 January 2017 / Thursday 5 January 2017
Thursday 5 January 2017 / Friday 6 January 2017
Friday 6 January 2017 / Saturday 7 January 2017

Cllr John Powell, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, said: “Christmas is one of the most joyous times of the year but it can also generate a lot of waste.  It is important that households recycle as much as they can over this period so they don’t run out of space in their black wheeled bin or purple sacks.

“Our latest recycling figures show that the county recycled over 3,800 tonnes of material in September, an impressive 66% of all material and well above the county’s statutory target of 58% of material being recycled during the year.

“We would like to thank all householders for their efforts.  By recycling your waste wherever possible, we can reduce the amount sent to landfill and also help to achieve the strict recycling targets set by Welsh Government.”
