A group of students at Newtown’s NPTC Group college campus are to raise awareness of mental health issues as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

The students, who are part of the college’s L3 Health and Social Care course, are organising a day of awareness with a stand and charity support within the college’s reception on Thursday, 8 December.

Last year the group held an awareness day focussed on cancer.

This year following the huge mental health awareness campaigns on Mental Health Awareness Week we are holding an event on mental health illnesses,” said Ceri-Lee Galvin, one of the students involved.

“As a group, we are working together to try and end the stigmas that we believe surround our community. Our event will be held within the reception of the college on Thursday, 8th December 2016 between 10am and 2pm.

Two mental health charities will be within attendance on the day to offer their professional support and guidance. These are Time to Change Wales and Ponthafren. Also on the day will be many games, activities and a lot of information available to the people who attend. We hope that we can support our community and make Newtown a mental health friendly town.”
