Campaign to keep Newtown's day centre open

20/10/2016 @ 10:10

Plans by Powys County Council to review day care activities for the elderly which could include closing Newtown Day Care Centre in Park Street are facing tough opposition from local residents and campaigners.

A consultation is currently being carried out by the council on the future of day care activity provision and it has highlighted the closure of day centres as one of the options as part of £1.193m savings needed by 2017/2018.

The Park Street Day Centre has been facing a tough future for over two years, but has constantly received the backing of residents and campaigners.

Now a public meeting is to be held at Newtown Library next Tuesday evening titled "Keep Our Day Centre Open."

One of the campaigners fighting to keep the Park Street Day Centre open is Cllr Joy Jones.

She said: "We need to let everyone know about the meeting. We need to fight to make sure our Park Street Day Centre remains pen."

The meeting will be held between 6.30pm and 8pm at the library in Park Street.
