A local estate agent and Powys County Council have warned private residential landlords in Montgomeryshire that they have just a matter of weeks before the new Rent Smart Wales regulations come into force.
Newtown-based Morris, Marshall and Poole and Powys County Council have issued the warning ahead of the deadline for any private residential landlord to be registered on the Welsh Government licence scheme by 23 November.
Anyone not complying faces a fine or court.
Andrew Turner, a partner at Morris, Marshall and Poole, said: “It cannot be ignored. Landlords have until 23 November to ensure they are trained and registered on the scheme. Alternatively, if they want they can pass responsibility of the management of their rental properties to a fully trained and Rent Smart Wales agent.”
The law now requires private sector landlords to register and letting agents and self-managing landlords to undertake training and apply for a licence from Rent Smart Wales.
Landlords can access training locally as Powys County Council’s Private Sector Housing team are approved to deliver Rent Smart Wales’ landlord training. New dates are now available and these are a last chance before the deadline to attend this training.
Alternatively, landlords can appoint an agent to act on their behalf.
Training for landlords will take place across the county in October and November from 9.00 am – 4.30 pm at the following venues:
Tuesday 25th October - The Park Offices, Newtown
Wednesday 2nd November - Neuadd Maldwyn, Welshpool
Wednesday 9th November - The Park Offices, Newtown
